With the PrestaShop module, your configento.app configurator appears right on the product page of your PrestaShop shop. Your customers put the product together, see the total price instantly and add the finished configuration to the normal cart. Order, tax and shipping then run through PrestaShop as usual. You edit your components in the embedded admin without leaving the back office.
Requirements
- PrestaShop 9 (the module is built for PrestaShop 9.0 and later; older versions cannot install it)
- Friendly URLs must be switched on in your shop. Only then can the module connect to configento.app – see Troubleshooting.
- Access to the PrestaShop back office with the right to install modules
- A login to the Service Portal for the service you want to connect the shop to
- At least one published component – unpublished drafts cannot be selected in the shop
Which frontend engine runs
The PrestaShop module always loads the V3 engine. The Frontend engine setting of the component plays no role here. Features that only exist in Legacy – such as accordion, 360° view, autocomplete or quantity predefinition – are therefore not available in PrestaShop. You will find the overview under Frontend Engine: Legacy or V3.
Download the module
You get the module in configento.app under Settings → Integrations, card PrestaShop 9, button Download module. You receive a ZIP file – do not unpack it.
If the tab is locked, first accept the data processing agreement under Settings → Data processing.
Installing the module
In the back office
- Open the module manager of your PrestaShop back office and upload the module's ZIP file. Do not unpack it beforehand.
- Install the module configento.app.
During installation, the module adds its own menu item configento.app under Catalog.
From the command line
If you have shell access, copy the unpacked configento folder into the modules/ directory of your shop and run this in the shop directory:
php bin/console prestashop:module install configento
The technical name of the module is configento. Make sure the folder then belongs to the web server user.
Connecting to configento.app
You set up the connection once from the back office. You don't have to copy a token.
- Open Catalog → configento.app.
- You see the card Mit configento.app verbinden (the module shows this card and its buttons in German for now). Click Verbinden.
- You are forwarded to the Service Portal. Log in and confirm the connection.
- You then return to the back office, and the configento.app admin opens right in the page.
While connecting, the module also sets up everything the product page needs: it fetches the credentials for your shop and reports your shop's domains to configento.app (see Allow your shop domain).
Every back-office user connects individually. The connection applies to the user account that made it, not to the whole shop. If a colleague works with their own login, they will see the card Mit configento.app verbinden again the first time they open Catalog → configento.app.
Above the embedded admin you see the email address of your portal login and the button Verbindung trennen (disconnect).
Editing components in the back office
Once connected, Catalog → configento.app opens the configento.app admin right inside the back office. There you create components, maintain characteristics, values, prices and rules and publish them – exactly as under admin.configento.app. The basics are in Create Your First Component.
Allow your shop domain
The configurator only loads on domains that are allowed for your service. The module reports your shop's domains when connecting, but does not allow them itself:
- In the configento.app admin, open Settings → Domains.
- The section Reported by connected shops lists the reported domains of your PrestaShop shop.
- Choose the type, for example Production, and click Add to licence.
The active shop addresses are reported, including the further shops of a multistore. If a new domain is added later, enter it yourself under Settings → Domains or connect the module again. More on this: Global Settings.
Linking a product to a component
- Open the product in the back office.
- The module adds the section configento.app to the product.
- Under Component, select the component from the list. Use the search field above it to find it by title or ID. The list shows the published components of your connected service.
- Save the product.
A product has exactly one component. To unlink it, choose — not linked — and save.
If the list cannot be loaded – for example because your user account is not connected yet – the section shows a plain field instead. Enter the ID of the component there, as shown on its tile in the component overview.
In a multistore, the link applies to the shop in which you are currently editing the product.
What happens in the shop
On the product page
- The configurator appears directly below the price, above the purchase area.
- Price: The price of the product plus the surcharge from the configuration is shown. The price in your theme's purchase area updates with every selection. It is calculated with the tax rate that PrestaShop applies to this product.
- Gross or net: The configurator shows prices the way your shop does. If the visitor's customer group sees prices without tax – a B2B group, for example – or taxes are switched off in the shop, the surcharges are net as well, and PrestaShop adds the tax itself, just as for the product price. Otherwise the configurator calculates gross with the product's tax rate. That way the same component works in shops with very different tax settings.
- Currency: If your shop has several currencies, the configurator shows the total and the surcharges of the individual values in the visitor's currency. It converts with your shop's exchange rates. The currency the component keeps its prices in must be set up in your shop for this.
- Combination: If the customer picks another combination, such as a different size, the configurator continues with its price as the base price and with its attributes. The chosen combination goes into the cart.
- Product image: If your component creates a combined product image, it appears as a separate, first image in your theme's image gallery, with its own thumbnail. Your customers can switch between your photos and the configuration; as soon as they change something, the view jumps back to the configuration. Themes without an image gallery show the image in place of the product photo.
- Quantity: If the customer changes the quantity, the configuration is kept.
Adding to the cart
Your theme's Add to cart button adds the configuration to the cart, not the bare product. Before that, the configurator checks the required fields and jumps to the first missing characteristic.
configento.app calculates the price again on the server when the item is added. What is displayed in the browser therefore cannot end up manipulated in the cart. After that, the item goes straight into the cart.
Cart, checkout and order
- The line shows two entries: Configuration with the summary of the selection and Preview with the combined product image.
- Cart, checkout, order confirmation and order show the combined image instead of the catalogue photo. Guests without a customer account see it via the order reference as well.
- The surcharge is included in the line price. PrestaShop calculates the tax as usual.
Changing a configuration
Every configured cart line has the link Change configuration. It leads back to the product page, and the configurator shows the saved selection. When the customer adds the changed configuration to the cart, it replaces the old line.
Product lists
In category and search lists, PrestaShop hides the direct-buy button for configurable products so that nobody adds the product to the cart without a configuration. The button to the product page is labelled Configure now there.
Product data in formulas
Characteristics of the data type Product attribute read values of the PrestaShop product, so that a formula can calculate with width, weight or size, for example. As the code, enter in the characteristic:
| Source | Code | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Field of the product | Name of the field in PrestaShop | weight, width, height, depth, reference, ean13, price, manufacturer_name |
| Feature of the product | Name of the feature | Material |
| Attribute of the chosen combination | Name of the attribute group | Size returns e.g. XL |
If a code exists more than once, the source higher up in the table wins. Names of features and attribute groups apply in the visitor's language – in a multilingual shop, give them the same name in every language, otherwise the characteristic stays empty in the other languages.
When the customer switches the combination, the characteristics get the values of the new combination. The price check when adding to the cart calculates with the same values. The module never hands out the purchase price, supplier data, stock location or descriptions, because the values appear in the source code of the product page. More on the data type: Calculated Characteristics.
Orders in the back office
On the order page in the back office, the module shows the card Configurations (configento.app). For every configured line you see:
- product and quantity, the component and the Verified surcharge – the price configento.app confirmed when the item was added
- all characteristics with their value, including those the customer did not see, such as hidden calculations. They are marked not shown to the customer.
- the combined product image, if the component creates one
- the button Download configuration (JSON) with the complete configuration as a file, for production, for example
Subscription status in the back office
If there is something to do about your configento.app subscription, the module shows a notice at the top of every back-office page, with the link Manage subscription to the Service Portal:
| Notice | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Your trial ends on … | The trial ends within the next 7 days. |
| Your subscription is no longer active. Configurators keep working in your shop until … | The subscription has ended. The configurator keeps running until the date shown. |
| Your subscription is no longer active. Renew it to keep the configurators running in your shop. (or Your trial has ended. Take out a subscription …) | The subscription or trial has expired, but the configurator is still running. Renew before it is switched off. |
| … Configurators are no longer available in your shop. | The trial or the subscription has expired. |
If configento.app no longer serves your shop, product pages show the sentence This product cannot be configured at the moment. instead of the configurator. That way no customer faces a configurator that does not load. The module checks the status at most once an hour, so after a renewal it can take up to an hour for the notice to disappear.
Disconnecting
Verbindung trennen above the embedded admin disconnects your user account – in the module and in the Service Portal.
Important: As long as another back-office user is still connected, the configurator keeps running in the shop. When the last connected user disconnects, the module also deletes the shop's credentials – the configurator then disappears from all product pages until someone connects again.
Uninstalling the module
When uninstalled, the module removes its connections, the links between products and components and the saved configurations of open carts. Orders keep their summary and preview image.
Before uninstalling, unlink the component on every product (— not linked —) and click Verbindung trennen once. Otherwise the products stay "configurable" for PrestaShop, and the authorisation in the Service Portal remains in place.
Troubleshooting
- An error message appears after "Verbinden", or the portal rejects the connection – check whether the friendly URLs of your shop are switched on. Without them, the module cannot build the return address the Service Portal requires.
- "Connected, but the storefront token could not be fetched" – the connection is in place, but the credentials for the product page are missing. Disconnect and connect again.
- No configurator appears on the product page – either no component is linked to the product, or no back-office user is connected any more. Check both under Catalog → configento.app and on the product.
- "Component could not be loaded (HTTP 401)" – your shop's domain is not allowed. See Allow your shop domain.
- The component list on the product is missing, there is only an input field – your user account is not connected, or the Service Portal was not reachable at that moment. Connect under Catalog → configento.app or enter the component's ID directly.
- "The price could not be checked right now. Please try again in a moment." – the price check at configento.app was briefly unreachable, or the component's currency is not set up in your shop. Nothing was added to the cart; the customer can try again right away. If the message keeps coming back, look in your shop's log for entries with "configento: Preisprüfung nicht verfügbar".
- "This configuration is no longer valid. Please put it together again." – the component was changed while the customer was configuring. The only remedy is to reload the page and put the configuration together again.
- The configuration image is missing in the cart – the component does not create a combined product image. The cart then shows the catalogue photo.
- "This product cannot be configured at the moment." – your configento.app subscription no longer serves the shop. See Subscription status in the back office.
- A product attribute characteristic stays empty – the code does not match, or the feature or attribute group has a different name in the visitor's language. See Product data in formulas.
