With the Magento extension, your configento.app configurator runs directly on the product page of your Magento shop. Your customers configure, see the price instantly and add the product to the cart as usual. Magento handles order, tax and shipping. The configuration appears in the cart, the order, the order email and the order view in the admin.
Requirements
- Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce 2.4, up to and including 2.4.9
- PHP 7.4 to 8.4, with the
jsonandcurlextensions - Composer and command-line access to your Magento server
- A login for the Service Portal (service.configento.app) with an active service order on the Professional or Ultimate plan. A shop plugin can't be connected on the Basic plan.
- At least one published component. Your shop always shows the last published version.
Magento 1 is no longer developed. This guide covers Magento 2 only.
How it works
- You install the extension via Composer.
- A Magento admin signs in to Configento once with their Service Portal login. Shop and service order are then connected – the extension fills in customer ID, key and token itself.
- You add a custom option of the type configento.app to every configurable product and choose the component there.
- The configurator loads on the product page. When the customer clicks Add to Cart, Magento takes over the configured price.
Step 1: Install the extension
The extension comes from the justSelling Composer repository. You also find the matching command in the Configento admin under Settings → Integrations on the Magento 2 card.
Change to the root directory of your Magento installation and run:
composer config repositories.configento composer https://www.justselling.de/repo/mage2/
composer require justselling/configento:^5.1
Then enable the module and rebuild Magento:
bin/magento maintenance:enable
bin/magento module:enable Justselling_Configento
bin/magento setup:upgrade
bin/magento setup:di:compile
bin/magento setup:static-content:deploy de_DE en_US
bin/magento cache:flush
bin/magento maintenance:disable
- You only need
setup:di:compileandsetup:static-content:deployin production mode. Pass the languages of your stores tostatic-content:deploy. - In developer mode,
setup:upgradeandcache:flushare enough.
Without Composer
If you can't use Composer, download the ZIP file of the version you want from www.justselling.de/repo/mage2/ and unpack it to app/code/Justselling/Configento/. Then run the same bin/magento commands as above. You'll have to apply every update by hand – which is why Composer is the recommended way.
Step 2: Connect to Configento
- In the Magento admin, open the menu justSelling → configento.app → configento.app.
- On first access you see Connect to Configento. Click Sign in to Configento.
- You land in the Service Portal. Sign in with your portal login.
- Under Which customer / service order?, choose the service order the shop should work with. Only active service orders on the Professional or Ultimate plan are offered.
- Confirm the authorisation with Approve (or decline with Deny).
- Back in Magento you see Connected to Configento as … and below it the Configento admin. This is where you create and edit components without leaving Magento.
On the first connection, the extension fills in the shop's credentials automatically and reports the activation to configento.app. You don't have to type in a customer ID or a security token.
Several admin users
The sign-in applies per Magento admin user. Everyone who wants to open the Configento admin in Magento signs in once themselves. That way you can see later who is connected and remove individual access (see Manage connections).
Legacy authentication
Installations that ran before version 5 can stay on the previous sign-in with customer ID, secure key and security token. To do so, set Use legacy authentication to Yes in the configuration. Leave the setting off for new installations.
Step 3: Link a product to a component
- Open the product in the Magento admin.
- Open the Customizable Options section and add an option.
- Give the option a title, e.g. "Configuration". It appears in the cart in front of the summary.
- Choose configento.app as the Option Type.
- In the Template field, choose the component. The list shows the components of your connected service order by name.
- Save the product.
The configurator now appears on the product page. One component can be attached to any number of products.
List empty? The component list comes from configento.app. If it's empty, the shop isn't connected yet (step 2) or the service order has no component yet.
What happens in the shop
- Product page: components with the V3 frontend engine are built directly into the page. The shop shows price and summary in the usual place, product images go into the gallery. Components with the Legacy engine run as before. Both kinds can run side by side in the same shop.
- Cart: the configured price applies to cart, tax, shipping and order. The configuration is listed below the item.
- Wish list and buy now: the configuration is saved too. Edit in the cart or wish list reopens the configurator with the saved selection.
- Order: the configuration appears in the order confirmation and in the order view in the admin.
Extension settings
Open the settings via justSelling → configento.app → Configuration.
Configento Connections
| Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Connected Configento Users | List of all Magento admins who have signed in to Configento, with portal user and last use. Disconnect revokes a connection, e.g. for a former employee. |
General
| Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Use legacy authentication | Only for existing installations, see above. Shows Customer ID, Secure Key and Security Token. |
| Load Chart plugin | Only enable if your components use charts. |
| Load Dropzone plugin | Enable if your components contain file uploads. |
| Debug mode | Writes detailed messages to the browser console. For troubleshooting only, not permanently in the live shop. |
| CSS Path of combined Image Container | CSS selector of the image area in which the combined product image should appear – only needed if your theme differs from the default. |
Development mode, Backend URL, Frontend URL, Cloud Base URL and CORS: Allow Private Network are meant for development and stay off or empty in the live shop.
Product View
| Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Show summary in sidebar | Shows the summary of the configuration in the sidebar of the product page. |
| Show summary product tab | Shows the summary as a tab of its own on the product page. |
| CMS Block Integration | Makes the content of Magento CMS blocks available to the component, e.g. for info texts. Only the blocks a component actually uses are loaded. |
| CMS Block Integration Name-Filter | Restricts the blocks by the start of their identifier. Example: designer takes all blocks whose identifier starts with "designer". |
New configurator (V3)
From version 5.0.0-beta21. Applies to products whose component uses the new configurator (V3).
| Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Load the configurator early | Product pages with a configurator connect to configento.app already in the page head and request the access token, so the configurator is ready sooner. Default: on. Up to version 5.0.0-beta21 the setting was called Connect to configento.app early and only opened the connection. |
| Reserved height while loading | Keeps this height free until the configurator is drawn, so the description and footer below it do not jump, e.g. 640px (a plain number counts as pixels). Empty: no reserved height. Invalid values are ignored. |
| Keep the reserved height | The height stays in place as a minimum height afterwards too. |
| Wizard navigation | Which built-in navigation a wizard shows: As set in the component (default), Tabs, progress and buttons, Back/Next buttons only or None (the shop page controls the steps) – for themes that build their own step display with the JavaScript API. |
Cart, Checkout and Backend
| Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Characteristics Mapping | Transfers the value of a characteristic into a field of the cart item, e.g. a calculated weight to weight. Columns: Characteristics (internal name), Value, Quote-Item Attribute, Quote-Item Value. If the value columns stay empty, the characteristic's value is taken over directly. The order of the rows matters. |
| Append Option-SKU's to Item SKU | Appends the article numbers of the selected values to the SKU of the cart item. Default: on. |
| Create products for Options | When the order is placed, replaces the configured product with the simple products whose SKU matches the article numbers of the chosen values and characteristics – for ERP systems that only know single articles. See Part Lists via Article Numbers. |
Asset Synchronisation
| Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Activate Asset Sync? | Downloads files that customers upload in the configurator into a protected directory of your Magento installation (pub/media/order/asset/), roughly every two hours during the day (4:30 am, then 8:30 am to 10:30 pm). Needs storage space and a running Magento cron. |
Price verification
The configurator calculates the price in the browser. With price verification, your shop has configento.app recalculate every price with the same calculation path when it's added to the cart. That way nobody can send a manipulated price to the cart.
| Level | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Off — no verification | Default. The price from the browser is used. |
| Shadow — verify and log only | The shop recalculates and writes deviations to the Magento log. The cart stays unchanged. |
| Enforce — use the verified price | The recalculated price is used. If it can't be confirmed, the shop refuses to add the item and shows the customer "We could not confirm the price for your configuration. Please try again in a moment." |
How to switch:
- Start with Shadow and let the shop run normally for a few days.
- Search the Magento log for
configento.v3.price.divergence. Every entry is a configuration where browser and server calculated differently – usually caused by a different tax rate or a value only the shop knows. - Only switch to Enforce once no more deviations show up.
Only components with the V3 frontend engine are verified. Components with the Legacy engine are skipped and calculated as before.
Subscription status in the backend
From version 5.0.0-beta25 the extension shows a system message at the top of the Magento backend with the link Manage subscription to the service portal when your configento.app subscription needs attention:
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Your trial ends on … | The trial ends within the next 7 days. |
| Your subscription is no longer active. Configurators keep working in your shop until … | The subscription has ended. The configurator keeps running until the date shown. |
| Your subscription is no longer active. Renew it to keep the configurators running in your shop. (or Your trial has ended. Take out a subscription …) | Subscription or trial have ended, but the configurator still runs. Renew before it is switched off. |
| … Configurators are no longer available in your shop. | Trial or subscription have ended. |
When configento.app no longer serves your shop, the product pages show the sentence This product cannot be configured at the moment. instead of the configurator. The extension checks the status at most once an hour, so after a renewal it can take up to an hour until the message disappears.
Manage connections
- In Magento: under Configento Connections in the configuration you see all connected admin users and disconnect individual connections with Disconnect.
- In the Service Portal: under Connections you see all connected shops of your service order with shop host, plugin, connecting user and last use. Revoke disconnects a shop completely there.
Update
With Composer, get the latest version like this:
composer update justselling/configento
bin/magento setup:upgrade
bin/magento setup:di:compile
bin/magento setup:static-content:deploy de_DE en_US
bin/magento cache:flush
The installed version is shown at the top of the extension's configuration. What changed in each version is in the release notes shipped with the extension.
Troubleshooting
Work through these points in order:
- "The shop plugin can only be connected to a Professional or Ultimate order" – your service order is on the Basic plan or not active. Change the plan in the Service Portal or choose another service order.
- The Configento admin in Magento only shows "Connect to Configento" – this admin user hasn't signed in yet. The sign-in applies per user.
- The "Template" field shows no component – the shop isn't connected yet, or the service order has no component yet.
- The configurator doesn't appear on the product page – check that the product has the option of type configento.app and that the component is published. Then flush the Magento cache and reload the page without the browser cache.
- Changes to the component don't reach the shop – the shop shows the last published version. Publish the component in the Configento admin.
- Errors while compiling or after the update – run
setup:upgrade, setup:di:compileandcache:flushagain. In production mode the new classes are missing after an update otherwise. - "We could not confirm the price for your configuration" – price verification is set to Enforce, and configento.app couldn't be reached or couldn't calculate the component. Switch back to Shadow and check the log.
- More clues – enable Debug mode and look at the browser console. The extension also writes to
var/log/configento.log, sign-in messages tovar/log/configento-oauth.log.
If none of this helps, reach support via the chat in the Service Portal. Include the extension version and the relevant log entries right away.
