With the configento.app MCP server you work on your components straight from your own AI assistant – for example Claude Desktop, claude.ai or Claude Code. You describe what you need in your own words ("Add a group Fabrics with three colours", "Raise all prices in the group Motors by 5 %"), and the assistant reads and changes the component for you.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants use tools and data. Every assistant that supports MCP servers with sign-in works with configento.app.
Unlike the AI assistant in the admin, the language model of your own assistant does the work here. No configento.app AI tokens are used.
What the assistant can do
- Read: look up components, groups, characteristics, values, rules, tiered prices and price lists, compare two components or versions, check a component for errors and read the user documentation.
- Edit drafts: create components; create, change and delete groups, characteristics, values, rules, tiered prices and price lists; set up action buttons; change the component's custom CSS and JavaScript.
- Publish: make the draft of a component live in the shop.
Not possible: deleting components, uploading images, changing settings, API keys and integrations, and buying AI tokens. Those stay in the admin.
An assistant always works in exactly one service order – the one you pick when connecting. For a second service order, connect the assistant a second time.
Connecting
You find the server URL in the configento admin under Settings → Integrations in the card AI assistants (MCP):
https://admin.configento.app/mcp
Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop)
- In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and use Add to create a custom connector. Enter a name, such as "configento", and the server URL. Keep the suggested settings – signing in now and registering the OAuth client automatically; Claude detects both itself.
- Claude opens the sign-in at the Service Portal. Log in with your usual login.
- On the confirmation page, pick the service order and what the assistant may do (see Permissions). Approve completes the connection.
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http configento https://admin.configento.app/mcp
Then run /mcp in Claude Code and choose configento to sign in. The browser opens the Service Portal; continue as above from step 2.
With an API key instead of a sign-in
For scripts and automations you can send an API key instead of signing in:
claude mcp add --transport http configento https://admin.configento.app/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
The key's permissions then decide what the assistant may do: Read only, Read & write, optionally with Publish. The MCP server does not need the AI permission.
Permissions
| Permission | The assistant may |
|---|---|
| Read components | Always included: look up, compare and check everything |
| Edit drafts | Also create components and change drafts |
| Publish to the shop | Also make drafts live – only together with Edit drafts |
Whatever an assistant may not do is not even offered to it. To change the permissions, disconnect and connect again.
Draft and publishing
All changes go to the draft, just like in the editor. Your shop keeps showing the published version until someone publishes – in the admin or, with the matching permission, the assistant on your explicit instruction. More: Draft, Preview & Publishing.
Check larger changes in the editor's preview before you publish. Every change the assistant makes shows up in the component's versions; restore an earlier version to undo it.
If a change would cause a structural error – such as a price list without configuration – configento.app refuses it and leaves the draft unchanged. The assistant gets the error message and can try again.
If you have the component open in the editor at the same time, the editor warns you on saving that the draft has changed in the meantime.
Disconnecting
- With sign-in: remove the connector in your assistant. If you are removed from the service order's team, access ends within a minute.
- With an API key: revoke the key under Settings → API; this takes effect immediately.
Costs
During your service order's trial the MCP server is included. After that you need the MCP add-on – bookable for every edition, Basic included:
- In the Service Portal, open Services.
- The service the assistant should work with shows the section Add-ons. Click Book next to MCP.
- Choose €25 per month or €250 per year (plus VAT) and click Book now.
The first period is charged immediately to your stored payment method. If you book during the trial, the first invoice only comes when the trial ends. Without a payment method and company address the add-on cannot be booked.
You can cancel at any time with Cancel add-on on the service. MCP stays active until the end of the paid period. If you cancel the service itself, the add-on ends with it. In the admin, the card AI assistants (MCP) under Settings → Integrations shows whether the add-on is booked.
Tips for good results
- Name the component: "In the component Awning Classic …".
- Let the assistant look before it changes: "Show me all rules that hide the characteristic Drive."
- Ask for a check at the end: "Check the component and list errors and warnings."
- Many assistants offer the prepared configento.app templates – Create configurator, Review component, Update prices and Translate component. With Update prices the assistant lists every affected price old and new before it saves.
