Connect configento.app to Claude: maintain your configurators with an AI assistant

Imagine you write in Claude: "In the component Awning Classic, raise all prices in the group Fabrics by 5 % and show me what changes first." Claude reads your configurator, lists every affected price old and new, waits for your okay – and then changes the draft. That is exactly what works from today: configento.app has its own MCP server.

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants use tools and data. Instead of copying data back and forth between a chat window and an admin interface, the assistant works directly with your configurators – with exactly the permissions you give it.

Supported are Claude Desktop, claude.ai and Claude Code, as well as any other assistant that can connect MCP servers with sign-in.

What you can do with it

  • Maintain prices: "Set all surcharges in the group Drive to the values from this list." The assistant shows the changes as an overview first.
  • Check configurators: "Check the component Carport Premium and list rules that never apply and missing translations."
  • Translate: "Translate the component into French." Missing titles and texts are added, existing ones stay.
  • Create new configurators: A product description becomes groups, characteristics, values, prices and rules.
  • Compare: "What is missing in Awning Classic that Awning Premium has?"
  • Publish: If you explicitly allow it, the assistant also makes the finished draft live.

Because the assistant can also read the configento.app user documentation, it answers questions like "How do I set up a price matrix?" along the way – in the terms you find in the admin.

AI agent in the admin or your own assistant?

configento.app already has an AI agent right in the admin. Both have their place:

AI agent in the admin Your own assistant via MCP
Where you work In the configento.app admin In Claude, where you already work
Language model Provided by configento.app Your own (e.g. your Claude subscription)
Billing AI tokens MCP add-on, no AI tokens
Other sources in the same chat Uploaded files Everything your assistant knows – files, notes, other tools
Ideal for Quick changes while editing Bigger tasks, matching with other systems, routine work

Safe and under control

  • Everything goes to the draft. Your shop keeps showing the published version until you – or the assistant on your instruction – publish.
  • You decide the permissions. When connecting you choose: read only, edit drafts, or also publish. Whatever the assistant may not do is not even offered to it.
  • Mistakes are caught. If a change would break the configurator structurally, configento.app refuses it and leaves the draft unchanged.
  • Every change is a version. You can undo anything through the component's versions.
  • One assistant, one service order. Access applies only to the service order you choose when connecting – and you can disconnect it any time in the Service Portal under Connections.

Connected in three steps

  1. Add the server URL https://admin.configento.app/mcp in Claude – in Claude Desktop as a custom connector under Settings → Connectors, in Claude Code with claude mcp add.
  2. Sign in with your usual Service Portal login.
  3. Choose the service order and permissions – done.

The detailed guide is in the documentation: Connecting AI Assistants via MCP.

What does it cost?

The MCP server is available as the add-on configento.app MCP – for every edition, Basic included: €25 per month or €250 per year (plus VAT). It is included in the 14-day trial. You book it in the Service Portal under Services → Add-ons.

Using Shopify? Then you don't book MCP in the Service Portal. Instead, choose the configento.app MCP plan in the Shopify App Store for US$159 per month – all configento.app features plus MCP, billed through Shopify and also with a 14-day trial. More on the Shopify product configurator page.

Since your own assistant does the computing, no configento.app AI tokens are used.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need coding skills? No. You connect the assistant once with a click-through sign-in and then simply write what you need.

Does this work with AI assistants other than Claude? MCP is an open standard. Any assistant that can connect MCP servers with sign-in works with configento.app. We explicitly support Claude Desktop, claude.ai and Claude Code.

Can the assistant break something in my shop? Only if you give it the permission to publish – and even then only on your explicit instruction. Without that permission it only changes drafts, which you can check in the preview first.

Is this also available for scripts and automations? Yes. Instead of signing in you can use an API key. For classic integrations without AI there is still the API.
